Speaker: Alicia Allen, Ph.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Allen began working on tobacco use clinical research in 2001 when she was hired as an undergraduate research assistant for a study examining the role of menstrual phase on cessation efforts in women. Over the past twenty-two years, Dr. Allen continued this line of research by continuing to explore the role of menstrual phase and ovarian hormones in cigarette-smoking related behavior in women, but also expanded to the perinatal period and misuse of other substances (such as cannabis and opioids). As a behavioral epidemiologist, she also really enjoys finding ways to strengthen methodologies (such as the use of sensors). To date, Dr. Allen has over 70 publications and has secured approximately $14 million in research funding, primarily from National Institutes of Health.
